1. Something Official
=====================
1.1. Hints to the program
The Program is written for IBM-compatible computer and was programmed in
Turbo Pascal 6.0.
It supports (at the moment) the multitasker enviroment (i.e. Desqview
and the local networks (like Novell, Lantastic etc).
The number of lines is limited to 255. But in the ANSI-Chat there should
not be more users than 8 user at the same time.
It works with RemoteAccess and SuperBBS without problems.
With BBS-Programs, which support DORINFOx.DEF, it should be work, too.
1.2 Shareware notice:
=====================
This software is distributed as Shareware.
If you try this program and continue to use it, you are expected to register
with us.
This software can be freely distributed, as long as no money is charged for
it, and all the files are included, unmodified, and with their modification
dates preserved.
This software cannot be distributed as a part of, or in conjunction with,
another product without permission of the author.
Whether or not you use this product, please give complete copies of this
software to others.
This software is provided "as is" and without any warranties whatsoever.
In no event shall I, Christoph Rockenstein, be liable for any indirect,
incidental, special or consequential damages or any loss of business
profits, business interruption, loss of business information, or other
losses arising out of the use of or inability to use this software or
accompanying written material, even if I have been advised of the
possibility of such damages.
1.3. How to register
If you haven't register the program yet, there are the following
little limitations:
In the first line of the screen there is written "UNREGISTRIERTE VERSION"
and the Chat-log-File doesn't work. The Status-Line is switched to a
registration-hint. With F1 you can switch to the right status-line.
There are no more limitations.
This limitations is gone, if the registration-number is included in the
Config-File.
Because the programming of this software is not quite easy, I ask everybody,
who uses this chat for more than 3 weeks in his BBS, he should register.
There is no special registered version. You only must insert the
registration-number in the CHAT.CFG-File. This number is send to you
at once as the chat is registered.
Pleast Read REGIST-E.TXT!

1.4. Beta-Version
The is a good running beta-version. There are no big bugs and the program
runs without problems on my system.
If somebody whishes improvement or something else, please write
a mail to me, Christoph Rockenstein, Fido 2:242/14.
Thanks.
2. Installing TINE-CHAT on your system:
========================================
2.1. Tips for installing
Make a subdirectory anywhere on your hard disk to contain the
TINE-CHAT-files (C:\RA\CHAT for example). Put all the files of
the CHATS0xx-archive into this directory.
Make sure, that you have SHARE.EXE started !
2.2. Start CHAT.EXE
To start TINE-CHAT, only type:
CHAT.EXE
TINE-CHAT will be started and searches EXITINFO.BBS and takes all
parameters of EXITINFO.BBS. If EXITINFO.BBS is not found, the program
looks the enviroment-variable DORINFO1.DEF. Please set it before
starting the BBS with: SET DORINFO=c:\bbs\node1\DORINFO1.DEF
If there is NO CARRIER, the program terminates immediately.
To start TINE-CHAT from RA, please create a Type-7-EXIT
and put in the option-line:
With RA: C:\RA\CHATS\CHAT.EXE *M
With SuperBBS: C:\SBBS\CHATS\CHAT.EXE /N=*N *S
Of course, you must edit CHAT.CFG and put it into your CHAT-directory.
2.3. The CHAT.CFG-File
Before you start TINE-CHAT, you must edit the CHAT.CFG-file.
Behind the ';' there is a comment, so it explains itself.
2.4. Multilanguage with Remote Access
It is possible to use serveral languages. You must define the names like
GERMAN.RAL and ENGLISH.RAL, but for Tine-Chat with the Extension .SCL
See the ENGLISH.SCL.
To overwrite these filenames, you can use the /L=Language-Switch (i.E.
/L=GERMAN )
2.5. Line-Command-Parameters
You can use several Line-Command-Parameters when you start Tine-Chat:
/s=SysopNr Sysop-Chat
You can start a Sysop-User-Chat direktly after Tine-Chat has been
started. So you can use Tine-Chat also as a Sysop-User-Chat.
The SysopNr is the Number of the SysopName, which you can define
in CHAT.CFG.
In this Mode some #-Commands are disabled, because the Sysop would
be crasy, if the user destroys his screen permantley.
You will be also set in this Sysop-User-Command, if you only types
locally in the Usertask. Then a second window will be opened in
this task, where you can write your stuff.
You can take serveral sysop-names by typing a number at the first
time you type.
To exit the chat, the user can type CTRL-Z and both windows (USer
& Sysop-Window) are closed. Or the Sysop closes his window with
CTRL-Z and then the Sysop closes the User-Window with CTRL-Z
/l=Language
Here you can define your own language-file. i.e. /L=JAPAN, the File
JAPAN.SCL will be used. Default is: ENGLISH.SCL
If you are a SBBS-Sysop, please use the /L-Command, if you have
language-problems.
/c=Config-File
If you want to use serveral config-file, you can define here the
names of the config-files: i.e.: /C=\ra\chat2.cfg , the config-
file CHAT2.CFG will be used.
/a=AnsiMode
/A=0 -> No Ansi
/A=1 -> Use Ansi
/A=2 -> Use Avatar
/W=0 -> No Window-CHat
/W=1 -> Window-CHat
/n=NodeNr
Here you can give the Line_Number of the line.
i.e. Line1: /N=1
If you want to make the chat read a DORINFOx.DEF-File, so you should
before starting you bbs set an enviroment-variable:
SET DORINFO=\bbs\node1\dorinfo1.def
2.6. Hints for SuperBBS-Sysops
Tine-Chat was also developped for SuperBBS 1.16b. You should start
CHAT.EXE as a Type-7 Exit with the following parameters:
C:\ra\chats\chat.exe /N=*N *S
2.8. Hints for Other BBS-Types
If you start TINE-CHAT without set the enviroment-variable RA, TINE-CHAT
assumes, you haven't installed Remote Access. The Default-Language-File is
ENGLISH.SCL. First Tine-Chat looks for an EXITINFO.BBS. IF it is not found,
you should define the Enviroment-Variable DORINFO:
SET DORINFO=\bbs\node1\dorinfo1.def
So TINE-CHAT looks for this DORINFO1.DEF.
Some options are not avaiable, like the commands #W, #D.
3. Commands in TINE-CHAT
=========================
3.1. Official
You start the command-mode by typing an "#" at the first row in your chat-
window.
Then you can insert a command like the following. If the command is not
defined, you continue with chatting.
3.2. Help
With #H the file CHATHELP.ASC will be displayed on the screen.
Here you can see alle #-commands that are avaiable.
{removed in this version:
3.3. Change screen-size
With #+ you can increase your screen-length. With low #- you can decrease
it. It depends on how many chatters are in the chat.
On the local side you cannot read something, if the screen-length is
bigger than 25 lines.
But the user see all correct on his screen.
end removed comands}
